How We Got Started
In July, 2011 a few folks gathered at the Tidal Creek Coop to talk with Slow Money NC co-founders, Carol Peppe Hewitt and Lyle Estill about getting Slow Money moving in the Wilmington area.  In September, 2011 they moved over to the Community College, attracted a larger audience and heard from several people about ideas that needed financing.

On February 3rd, 2012, Carol was invited to speak about “Financing Your Farm/Seafood Business” at the Southeastern North Carolina Food Systems Program Conference (SENCFS) Annual Regional Conference at UNCW.

Following the conference, the newly named “Slow Money NC Down East” met and had a great turnout. They brainstormed next steps, and formed a “Steering Committee.” Here’s the email that went out….

Entrepreneurs, potential lenders and local food enthusiasts will gather to get Slow Money moving Down East. Join us and share your ideas and resources as we build resilience in our local foodshed.

As soon as we can we will list the possible loan projects here, and the steering committee contact information as well.

If you would like to make a loan, or need a loan for a viable project, please let us know.
